I've been enjoying my new ring light. I got a picture of DC that I love and we may use for a new header for him. But does anyone think it makes him look a bit like Omar Gooding?

Student Ministry is kicking off a new series this weekend called "Identity" - I've heard it will be sweet. And I heard that from me, and I'm a pretty reliable source. Bring it!

Casa Del Myers?

So I'm thinking about buying a house. I've had a lot of people telling me it's the smart thing to do. I especially liked Corey Mann's advice..."When you rent, you're throwing money out the window. When you buy you're throwing money out the window, but it lands in YOUR yard." But I'm young, I'm stupid, I need some advice. So here's my question for all you home owners out there. If you could offer me one piece of advice while I'm looking into this, what would it be?

Foo Fighters Fun For Friends

Tonight I got the chance to head to Chicago with Corey, Tim, and Adam to see The Foo Fighters. It pretty much rocked! There was some band from Nappanee (amish joke) that opened, and then the dude from System of a Down (reminded me of dan) played next. While they were transitioning, we almost saw a fight break out, and then the party began.  I love Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and those other guys.  I loved the show. However, my legs were getting tired from standing in the general admission section, so I decided to squat down for a song, but Corey interupted my squating with a tap on the shoulder and a nod. I'm glad he did, because I got to see this sight...A stage descended from the ceiling. And no...nobody knew it was up there. They made their way our there for a little 'acoustic set' or at least as acoustic as you can get in an arena. They played "There Goes My Hero" out there which bummed me out a bit, I wish I could've seen that full band. However there was a nice Triangle solo by the Aux Percussionist they're touring with. Great show, but it was more fun to spend time in the car and at Chili's with some good friends. Some of the things we discussed were a bit over my....uh...head I guess. Maybe just stuff I'll find out about when I get married and have kids. But it was a fun window into that world. I miss having Corey around, but it just makes me value the times we get to hang out together that much more. Fun Foo!

ESPN's Greatest Highlight

ESPN is holding a 'tournament' for the greatest highlight in sports history. After the first round of voting of somewhere around 100 clips compiled by experts, people got online and narrowed it down to a list of 16. My favorite sports clip ever is still in the running. I think, in comparison to the rest of them, the 'Miracle On Ice' is the greatest sports moment. It was an amazing accomplishment especially considering most people aren't aware of the fact that the soviet team was actually comprised of professional athletes while the American team was made up of college students. People have argued that there is a vast difference between the soviet "professional athlete" and the American, but that only refers to pay. It still means that they were the best vocational hockey players in the best hockey nation in the world, playing full time. Not to mention all the cold war stuff...this clip has to be number one. Some new band members

I'm pretty stoked for this weekend. I've got some new guys coming up to play for the Lifeline/Oasis bands this week. Sam Penland and Riley Robbins are joining the fold. The first week I ever did came here at GCC, which was like my 4th week of working here, I got the opportunity to have Sam and Riley as my campers and they changed my life. Awesome kids...I can't wait to see what they do this weekend.

Shoot 'em up

I was in the mood to buy a movie for my new blue ray player saturday night, and the only one that best buy had that I hadn't already seen was a movie called "Shoot 'em Up." I figured, 'why not.' Let me just say...I loved it. It was completely over the top, henchman eliminating violence. If I could assimilate it to anything, I would say that if you took "Sin City" "Moulin Rouge" and "Rambo" and squeezed them together, this is what would pop out the bottom. Loved it, but it's only for big people kids...sorry.

More Blog Shout-outs

I was apparently mistaken in my post from yesterday concerning the amount of people who read my blog. Two people in particular I forgot to add to the old link list down on the right hand side there. One is Adam Callender, who is the Tech Director here at GCC. He is the bees-knees...believe it. A word of warning, unless he blogs about his recent experience at Hannah Montana in DISNEY 3D, most of the stuff he talks about are over the head over the average blog reader.
The second person is Kristen Baker. Kristen...umm....thinks things up and executes them for the Arts team here. I'm not really sure of her official title, but if I could make one, I would probably go with "Dreamer of Dreams." Check em out.
I also re-organized the old list-o-blogs down on the right side there. Got rid of some people who stopped blogging, and added some people that are. And for those of you on the list, the order you're on there is no indication of how much Iove you, nor is it in some kind of strange alphabetical order. They're just the order of how I found out about your sites combined with whether I added you when I was deleting somebody else. I love you all equally...and by that I mean that I would buy each of you a stick of butter without a moments hesitation. You can take that to the bank!

If you were wondering...

I'm sure a small percentage of my readers may have noticed I took a bit of a vacation from blogging. And take that from the small number of people who read this blog anyway, and you get about three people. So, to my dad, sarah and allison...I apologize. The reason is that in the last few weeks, quite a bit has changed around here. And while that means some exciting new changes, it also means there's some sadness, and a healthy doss of stress...the good kind. For those of you who don't already know, I used to work for Corey Mann up here in the Youth Department, and they were planning to bring me on full time to aid him, as well as serving in some other capacities. Shortly after that was decided, Corey ended up leaving student ministry and heading back to radio. There's a reason he left, and all the people who need to know why already do, so I'll just leave it at that. But for my part, I'm just sad that I don't have my friend around here anymore. I'm going to miss lunches, meetings, messing around, and doing ministry with Corey. We're still friends though, I just have to actually use the phone now...bummer.
With all that said and done, I am now the Student Ministries Creative Director, or Student Ministries Creative Arts Director, or Student Ministries Guru of Geekiness....one of those things. The sign on my door, my business card (that doesn't exist yet), and what people call me, all vary. But that means I'm taking on all of what Corey used to to, and what I used to do. Which means, taking a lot of pictures, making a lot of videos, dreaming a lot of dreams, visionating a lot of visions (new word), scratching my head a lot and wondering how anybody get's all their work done from 9-5.
I love GCC, I love that I get to use my gifts here, I'm glad I'm in for the long-haul, I'm glad they tolerate my ADD, and I'm super stoked about the future. It's a little bittersweet...ok it's very very bittersweet, but God has His way in every situation; good and bad. Get it done

Wowzers

This summer, I'll be getting a new apartment with my friend Luke Zeller. Luke is a great guy, he's hilarious, he really generous, and he also kind of sounds like a kidnapper on the phone due to his amazingly deep voice. Through a strange series of events, I ended up getting to be friends with him and I couldn't be more pumped. He's got a vision for a sports ministry/athletic camp that sounds fantastic. Anyway...he's a pretty good basketball player apparently. I believe he was a McDonald's high school All-American. He was Indiana "Mr. Basketball" his senior year of high school, and now he plays for Notre Dame. At any rate, somebody showed me this video of him yesterday and I thought it was worthy of showing the world. 7 foot Luke hits a buzzer beater to beat Plymouth High School in the Indiana State Championships. Check it out...

Tonight was a recipe for fun from the get-go. And it did not disappoint. There's nothing like watching the superbowl on 43" feet of high def beauty. There's also nothing like watching our students make EVERYTHING happen for bands that come in. Jonathan, Doc, Phil, Austin, and the boys worked like champs. So I got to sit back and relax and watch one of the best football games I've seen in awhile. I'm so happy the Giants won. It's not that I particularly like the them, but something about the Patriots rubs me the wrong way. They remind me a bit of the Yankees and the Red Wings. And no...I don't have a great reason, but that's what's great about sports. The bad thing is, I got so wrapped up in watching the game, I kinda forgot to take pictures of our kids at the party. I...am...dumb. But take it from me, they had fun. They got into the game, they were cheering: fun to be had by all.

And Casting Pearls...was awesome. I was totally blown away. Everyone was amazingly gracious, sounded outstanding, they had a great message, they hung out with the kids even though one of them wasn't feeling all that well, and they were kind enough to let me do a little photo shoot after things were all done for the evening.
