Yesterday, I had the opportunity to play with Nirup Alphonse. I really had a good time playing with him, but I always have a good time playing. I listened to his c.d. when I got home, and I recommend it...especially if you like Shane and Shane.

Two Strange Thoughts

While I was watching re-runs of "The Deadliest Catch" on the discovery channel this afternoon, I saw a commercial for a perscription sleep aid called "Lunesta" about seven times. They're the one with the scary glowing butterfly that floats into peoples rooms and puts them out. I noticed that among the listed side effects, 'drowsiness' was among them. Why is drowsiness a side effect of a SLEEP AID? Yes, I realize that it's probably referring to after the recommended eight hours, but still.



I also noticed that in the movie "Wedding Crashers" Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's characters pretend to be brothers at the Cleary wedding. Their relation to the family is supposedly that they are "Uncle Ned's kids." The two 'brothers' decide that they're both going after the two remaining Cleary daughters. Did anybody catch on to the fact that those girls are basically under the impression that those guys are THEIR COUSINS! sick

I'm glad I stayed...

Earlier this week, I was a little bummed out. This week is spring break for bethel students. And while this is my sixth spring break, I was still a little sad I couldn't go with some of my friends to somewhere warm and not overcast. See, the church is in the middle of the my life campaign, and the staff needs to be here right now. So with a half grin of my face, I watched all my friends drive off to exotic locales. I wasn't really looking forward to this week, watching pictures being posted on facebook everyday of friends on the beach and getting phone calls from people sitting by the pool. I knew the campaign was very very important to the church, and I'm so very blessed to be a part of it. But I'd be lieing if I said I wasn't a little jealous...until this week actually started. Two great things have happened this week.
Firstly, I got to recapture the joy I had working at the church this summer. Once I went back to school, my attention became divided. So with my head in work life part of the day, and school life the other, it made it hard to focus. It all kind of became a drain after awhile. The people who work with me probably noticed it I'm sure, as well as my classmates. But this week, I've been able to just go to work, and be fully there and invested. I've gotten so much more work done, and it's just renewed my sense of calling and purpose.
Second, I got to attend the spotlight dinner on tuesday night. If you're a part of the GCC family, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS THESE! Take it from me, you don't know what your missing. As I sat at the dinner, I got to meet some new people at my table, and hear all the ways God worked in these peoples lives to bring them to the church. And as I listened to Mark speak, and heard the testimonys shared, I was holding back the tears, ready to run out of the room in joy because I was a part of something as big as what God is about to do through Granger Community Church. For all the people I know my age that talk about wanting to be a part of something big, something that will change their communities and their world...this might be something you want to be in on. I've never been so excited to serve with my time, talents, and resources especially. I'm actually excited about giving beyond my tithe. I don't know where the money will come from, but God has provision for the number I feel Him giving me. I'm just so happy to be here for the start of this new season. I'm glad I stayed...
