LA-A

I was talking to Jeff DeSelm and Sam Harper tonight at Brian and Jenna's Birthgagement celebration. I guess Sam either has a student or knows a student who's name is LA-A. They asked me, "How would your pronounce that?" I came up with about fifteen variations of how you could say La with an accent on the a. Turns out, the dash is not silent. The child's name is pronounced "Ladasha." Are you kidding me? Shouldn't the people who write the names on the birth certificates be able to tell the parents, "Uh, no." Well if that's kosher, then I just figured out what I want to name my hockey player child. "DA/A" Figure that one out and you get a prize.

Hope This Helps

To everyone else, you wouldn't understand.

Oh joy

In terms of drumming, I do things a little differently than a lot of the people I know. I mix the cymbal line's I use for different area's of the drumset, even different brands. This is an area where there is obviously no right or wrong answer necessarily, I just think given the acoustics of the room we play in and the mic set up we use that certain cymbal combo's work better than others. I was starting to think I was the only person who did this, until I popped in the catalyst DVD from last year and noticed that both of the drummers that played for it do the same thing I do with the exact same kinds of cymbals. I felt like I found a friend for a minute. Ok, well no one cares about this obviously so if you're read this far, Gold Star for you.

Ohio State vs. Michigan

Ok I wasn't going to say anything about that game because nothing really needed to be said. It was a great game...for everybody on the south side of the rivalry anyway. Not the point though. I was cruising blogs as I do and I noticed that one of my favorite photographers was at the game, and of course he shot the game. Scott Kelby took some great shots, two in particular that I love. This one would be of Chris Wells first touchdown run that he broke for over 50 yards. This is really cool. You have to look in the background to see why it's cool. It's of Brian Hartline's first touchdown (53 yard reception) but if you look in the endzone you see the Ohio State fans going crazy and the Michigan band stiff as a board.

Funny story...

A few years back I knew this guy who volunteered for hospice. A friend of mine tried to thank him for his service, and the guy said, "Thanks, but I'm just doing it in hopes that one of these people, with their last dying breath, is going to whisper to me the location of their buried treasure."

...I wonder if it ever happened.

Some new video's

"Where Amazing Happens" ...The GSM version of the NBA's "Where Amazing Happens" commercials. If you watch the NBA at all, you've seen A MILLION different versions of this commercial and they're all on youtube. However, I heard that apparently no one at GCC watches the NBA. Whoops

GSM Overview for the weekend services. I'm still reworking it so it'll work for the student ministry home page.

My Dad was in charge of over seeing a ton of service teams that came to Ottawa after the flood. After over a year of work, it looks like it's finally come to an end. He asked if I'd throw all the photo's into a video for him so he could show the Prebytery and the churches who all pitched in what the last year looked like through Ottawa's eyes. And ya know, when Dad asks, who can say no to that. The music, the order, the photo's and the story was all him. I just punched her into the old computer. Enjoy.

Mark Beeson on the Election

I am very much aware of the fact that Tim Stevens put this on his blog, and DC Curry put this on his blog, and of course it was said on the weekend at GCC. I realize that if you read my blog, you read theirs hours before you read mine. However, I'm putting this up there for the three or four people in Ohio who only follow mine. And I just wanted to show my support.

Embarrassing Confession

I know DC posted this video not too long ago. The embarrassing part is, I've probably put it on in my room while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning about a dozen times. No, the song is not on iTunes, but yes, I did make an iPhone ringtone out of it.

Democracy

I decided to get to the polls right when they opened this morning.  I was greeted by a rather long line of people who apparently had the same idea.  No worries, I saw Ben and Vanessa Sanders not too far behind me.  I discovered that democracy is, in fact, not a well oiled machine.  As I walked in behind about fifty other people, I had my I.D. checked and a woman said,  "Anyone's last name start with M?"  So I raised my hand, not sure what I was in for.  Luckily, there was a special line just for me and the other M's.  Actually is was M-Z but it took her another 10 minutes to remember to say that.  I'm not complaining though, I was the first in the special "m" line.  Anywhoo, I voted for the three people I knew and then that was about it, after that I just filled in all the C's like I did on the ACT test.  Took them a minute to get the old ballot machines working which would be what the photo is indicating.  It was an interesting sight to see five senior citizens standing around trying to figure out a piece of technology.  They got her all figured out though, and that was that.  Ok now stop reading this and go vote.

GSPN is making a come back...

The GSPN guys were back at the desk today getting ready for a revival in two weeks.  We had a bunch of students and leaders show up this morning and support us and we really appreciate it.  Ok, it's been a really long weekend.  Time for a coma.

Good People

Andrew and Brooke are good people.
I like good people.
Good people are like good steaks.
They're similar in that...they're both....good.
Good things.
