Get ready for next weekend...

I feel like a man...sorta

So instead of resorting to taking my car to the dealership to replace my TWO burned out headlights, I decided to fix them myself...with a lot of help from Adam Callender. And all it took was both bulbs being burned out at the same time, and Allison repeating to me that she thought I'd never do it. It's amazing what mockery will get me to do.

Corey Mann @ New Community

Corey spoke tonight at New Community. It was awesome, that's all I'll say. Check out the video over at the New Community Home Page.

Viva Vista!!!

Last night was the first rehearsal with the church's new Studer 'Vista 8' sound boards. Totally digital, totally cool...totally over my head. I think the reason we haven't been hearing much about our space program lately is because all of our rocket scientist's have been designing these boards. (Actually I think they're made by the Swiss). Anyway, rehearsal went really smoothly considering all the new technology. Tonights New Community will be the first service run by the new boards. So 'all hands on deck' tech team! Here we go!

AUGUST RUSH - Movie Review

All I can say is...don't waste your money. Go buy the soundtrack, and you'll get just about as much out of the movie as I did. Fun music, completely pointless plot. Shameless mushy "fate will bring us together" that is absolutely non-sensical. Music was nice though. Some Michael Hedges acoustic guitar music made it in, with a little girl named Kaki King serving as the boy guitarist hand double.

In summary...Allison and I were both exited, and we were both disappointed.

I'm trying my hand at photoshop tutorials

I've learned everything I know about photoshop, photography, video editing and all those kinds of things off the internet. Watching web tutorials is a pretty big part of it. I've talked to some kids who's like to develop some photoshop skills and what have you so I figured I'd share too. Tell me if I'm nuts. This video is small, but you can watch it a little bigger on Youtube.

She blinded me with science

Ok...Innovation at it's finest. Gibson finally made a guitar that, officially, walks, talks and wets. Just watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

The Mist

Steven King's new book-to-movie "The Mist" comes out today. In short...small town...scary mist...giant satan bugs...death and destruction...role credits...go red sox. At any rate, after watching the trailer, and then looking outside, I think we're screwed. I love South Bend...

Help...he needs somebody...

Did ya like that Beatles reference? Did ya? Anyway...Tim Stevens is writing a book. Tim is the executive pastor at GCC. He's also a part time bounty hunter*, amateur curling coach*, and folk singer...not to mention, he's a cool guy. His book will, in fact, alter the rotation of the earth. However, it's not quite finished. And he would like YOUR help in finishing it up. Got a minute? Then take part in a survery that will aid in the completion of "Pop Goes the Church."

Don't believe the hype!!!

I played the new game "Rock Band" on Xbox 360 last night for the first time. For those of you who haven't heard about it, it's supposed to be the next step up from guitar hero, involving not only a guitar, but drums and and a microphone. Well I picked up the sticks last night on the demo at Wal-Mart and gave it a shot. I went a head and started off on expert mode and I finished with a 96 percent (which includes sections where I had no idea what to do). The game is exactly like guitar hero, just not challenging. So I'd just like to say again...don't believe the hype.

My Dad met someone famous...

When my dear old Dad was on vacation in Florida last week, he got to meet a 'celebrity.' Anybody know who it is?

I'm nuts

I shot up in bed this morning with the, "*snuf* I'M LATE!!!" sensation coarsing through my body. I looked at the alarm clock and it said 8:40. "OH NO!!!," I exclaimed. Sound check was at 7:30. First service is at 9 and it's a fifteen minute drive to the church from my apartment. I leapt out of bed, put on yesterday's clothes, and threw my contacts in my back pocket and basically fell down the stairs while dailing Trace on my phone to tell him I'm awake and I'm coming. Upset was I, since I didn't hear my alarm or my phone go off. Then I was a little befuddled that I didn't have any missed calls from Trace, Jonathon, Adam, or whoever else...wondering where in the world I am. No matter, I call Trace as I'm throwing my shoes on. No answer...strange. No time for a message. Then I hang up the phone and look down at the screen which now reads - "8:44 - TUESDAY, November 13"

...I thought it was Sunday. That just shows you exactly how out of it I can be in the morning.

OUTRAGE!!!

I drove down to Indy last night to visit the old mecca, known as the apple store. I broke my iPhone. It was my fault, I'm an idiot. Don't plug you're iphone into a radio trasmitter/charger made for iPods. 'nuf said. At any rate, I grab some Wendy's drive thru for my trek back to town and I start to dig into my fries. I start to notice that these fries don't taste right. When I was trying to put my finger on what they tasted like, I realized that they tasted like potatoes. How dare they? I pay for the grease and the starch and whatever else they do to those things so they don't tastle like potatoe's anymore. I mean come on!!! I'm kidding, but seriously. What's the deal?

Scott Kelby has some fun

One of my favorite photographers/photoshop guys, Scott Kelby, had some fun with new Canon toys at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game last week. You always see those big honkin' lenses photographers are totin' around the the sidelines of all kinds of athletic events, but we never see those pictures except the one shot that actually makes SI or whatever. Well good old Scott threw up an album full of pictures he took. He used a Canon 5D with a 24-70mm f/2.8 (but shooting around f/5.5-8) at ISO200 for all the wide shots. And he also used a new Canon Mark IIID with a 400m f/4 lense (shot at f/4 this time) again at ISO200. Ok, techno nerdery aside...here's the slide show.

Rob Bell - The Gods Aren't Angry

Last night, like I said, we went to chicago to hear the debut of Rob Bell's new speaking tour, The God's Aren't Angry. It was actually my first time seeing Rob Bell speak in person, I've been a faithful podcaster though. I really loved it. He took me by surprise a little bit...just hopped out on the stage and said "Hello..." and bam, he was into his message. Great message, really thought provoking. I didn't take notes, I took pictures. But this guy took notes. Here's some pictures from the whole evening. Enjoy!

Rob Bell teaser

Corey, DC, John and I just got back from seeing Rob Bell in Chicago. I'll have the rest of my photo's and comments up tomorrow but for now I'll just say that I thoroughly enjoyed my first Rob Bell experience.
